1/12/2008 - TickerHound Tape

Posted by Wayne on January 12, 2008 – 12:08 am

I’m so happy we’re back to our regular format this week, I felt bad for not being able to highlight my favorite Q&A’s for a whole two weeks. We really had some fantastic answers on the site and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you.

But before that I’d like to talk about the Top TickerHounds for a moment.

I use that term a lot, “Top TickerHound“, but what does it REALLY mean?

To me, a Top TickerHound isn’t just based on points - I mean, the points are certainly what we use to identify who these top contributors are on the web site. But what a Top TickerHound really is to me can’t only be described in points.

A Top TickerHound is a person who gives up a piece of their time…a person who gives up a valuable portion of their day in order to help educate and empower other investors in a meaningful way. These people aren’t compensated with cash. They aren’t given “VIP access” to the site. They are simply regular investors, just like you and me, who have an intrinsic desire to help other investors in the market.

Are you one of them? Why do you do it?

Maybe it was because you remember how tough it was to get started in this game.

Or maybe it’s because somebody once helped you with a trade or giving you general advice on how to manage your money better.

Whatever the reason is, I want to know - in fact, I think everybody wants to know. So I’ve gone ahead and posted the question on TickerHound itself. This isn’t something that I’ll do often so I’d really appreciate it if you could take the time out to answer the question and give me your honest feedback and reasons for being a major contributor to TickerHound.

Why do you answer questions on TickerHound?

I can’t wait to hear what makes our Top TickerHounds tick!

The Top TickerHounds for this week are as follows…(drum roll please):

MNSL - This is a member that we’ve had since the very beginning. Not only does he ask a lot of insightful questions, he answers a whole bunch of them as well. He’s been doing an amazing job (as you may have noticed) and I know I speak for everybody when I say that I hope he continues to keep up the great work!

John - John’s a former stock broker, analyst and has even worked in the financial media industry before. Now he’s become fairly active in the TickerHound community - in fact, this week he received his very first “Best Answer” vote…congratulations John! I hope we see a lot more of you on the site going forward.

Sundarkambam - This is a fairly new name on the site - actually, sundarkambam has only been a TickerHound for a day and has already answered over 20 questions! “Impressed” doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about the latest addition to the Top TickerHound community. I hope we continue to see this member on the site for the days, weeks, months and even years to come!

Now to quickly highlight some of my favorite Q&A’s for the week…

How many more rate cuts can we withstand?

What do you think about Starbucks?

Is the 30 day moving average a better indicator than 20 or 50 day moving average?

Do you think the current oil bubble is similar to the housing bubble?

Is it time to sell my gold?

we need rate cuts NOW and fast… got 3/4 basis points as of 1/22/2008. for it to be effective for our economy it must come down to 3%. sbux is a great corp and great coffee but raised prices 3x in 2007. sbux in Seattle is testing $1.00 for a cup of java-why?losing mkt share to Peets & Mcd.Gold–price should stall for a while but for long, maybe into summer. thomas
